Karen Jeanne Armstrong grew up in Los Angeles, CA. She earned her degree in Microbiology from Oregon State University, then her DMD degree at Oregon Health Sciences University School of Dentistry in 1990. After graduation, she joined the United States Navy Dental Corps. During her five years in the Navy, she had the unique opportunity to extensively rotate through each specialty of dentistry, gaining valuable experience in  such areas as endodontics, oral surgery and periodontics.

In April of 1995,  she opened her office, built by her husband, with the goal of providing dental services in an environment similar to a home.

Dr. Armstrong attends more than 50 hours of continuing education each year. This education includes the Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education, where dentists from around the country gather to advance their dental knowledge professionally as well as personally for today's dental practice. Currently, she has completed 7 Continuum Levels of Education, with her final Continuum scheduled for March 2008. In February 2006, the L.D. Pankey Dental Foundation recognized her for having 300 hours of post-doctoral care.

Dr. Karen Armstrong is an Adjunct Professor at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, where she educates and advises dental students in a clinical environment.

Dr. Armstrong contributes to many local charities and causes including Sponsors for Academic Talent, the Onslow-Pender Shop with a Cop program, the Onslow County Library Summer Reading Program and the Boys and Girls Club of Onslow County.
